Independence Blue Cross (Independence) is now accepting applications for its 2024 Clinical Care Innovation Grants. The grants foster innovative approaches to care delivery that can help improve the health and well-being of Independence members and the community at large. Health systems and large specialty groups that are in the Independence network and have a value-based contract are encouraged to apply for a 2024 Clinical Care Innovation Grant.
To date, Independence has awarded 17 Clinical Care Innovation Grants to 5 different health systems and large specialty groups. According to recipients, the grants provide valuable support to drive important health care research.
“We are extremely grateful to Independence Blue Cross and their Clinical Care Innovation Grant Program for supporting our ‘A Comprehensive Caregiver Support Model for the Seriously Ill’ pilot that is designed to transform Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic’s approach to delivering care to our most medically complex patients,” said Naomi Y. McMackin, MD, regional chief medical officer of the clinically integrated network for Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic’s Pennsylvania region. “Through an in-home social care focus, the pilot recognizes and elevates caregivers, assesses their needs, and creates long-term support services plans. We feel this pilot will have broad regional applications.”
Health systems and large specialty groups applying for a Clinical Care Innovation Grant should submit ideas that are not currently supported by Independence’s provider incentive program and that focus on new and innovative approaches to care that do the following:
- Leverage technology and virtual care.
- Improve quality of care, patient experience, access to care, and/or lower health care costs.
- Bring patient care to the home setting if needed.
- Integrate behavioral health strategies into care delivery.
- Seek to achieve health equity.
Up to five Clinical Care Innovation Grants will be awarded in 2024 with an average of $200,000 per grant. Grant submissions are due by October 5, 2023. Each entity is permitted up to three submissions. The submissions will be evaluated internally by an Independence review committee. Providers whose submissions are accepted will be invited to present their idea(s) on November 16, 2023. Winners will be notified by November 17, 2023.
