Update, Change Healthcare cybersecurity incident

In late February, Independence Blue Cross (IBX) was made aware that one of our service providers, Change Healthcare, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, experienced a network interruption related to a cybersecurity issue.

On Monday, April 22, 2024, Change Healthcare issued a press release announcing that due to the widespread nature of the incident, Change Healthcare has established a dedicated website and is offering access to two years of credit monitoring and identity theft protection services to individuals who are concerned about their personal data. IBX invites members to enroll in this credit monitoring service provided by Change Healthcare. The Change Healthcare call center is available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST and can be reached at 1-866-262-5342.

As of today, Change Healthcare has not notified IBX that any member data has been subject to unauthorized access and reiterated that their press release does not serve as a formal breach notification. Change Healthcare has stated publicly they will provide notice directly to impacted individuals; however, the process to identify and notify affected individuals may take several months.

The security of our members’ personal information remains a top priority. We are actively monitoring the situation and are prepared to take all necessary steps should it be confirmed that IBX data has been affected.
