Lopez leads all financial functions for Independence Blue Cross, as well as other subsidiaries under Independence Health Group, parent of Independence Blue Cross. He also plays a key role in strategic planning for the organization and oversees critical programs that support the organization’s commitment to economic equity, including:
- Supplier diversity and support for diverse businesses
- Investments in small businesses
- Support of diverse investment companies
- Engagement with diverse portfolio managers
In addition, Lopez actively supports the company’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts as an executive sponsor for the Latino Associate Resource Group, Latinos con Propósito. He is also a member of the company’s Leadership Development Advisory Council focused on developing next generation talent.
Lopez is known throughout the community for his board work with organizations, such as Fred’s Footsteps; Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School; and Providence Center and Esperanza, two nonprofits serving the North Philadelphia Latinx community. In 2017, he was honored with Al Día’s Hispanic Heritage Month Pillar of Leadership Award, which recognizes Latino leadership in Philadelphia’s business community.
Each of the CFO of the Year honorees will be profiled in a special edition of the Philadelphia Business Journal on July 14. They will also be recognized at a celebration in Center City in July.
