Nominate a nurse in the region by May 31
Independence Blue Cross (IBX) is now accepting nominations for the 2025 Celebrate Caring campaign, which highlights extraordinary nurses in the region. Members of the community can help IBX recognize those special nurses who demonstrate a continued excellence when caring for others by submitting nominations at ibx.com/nurses starting now, during National Nurses Week, May 6-12. Nominations will be accepted through May 31.
Award winners
IBX will select and announce three winners. The company will make a $2,500 donation to a nonprofit of each winning nurse’s choice, award them a $500 gift card, and host them at a celebratory event. The campaign winners will once again receive the Sunshine Award, in memory of Paula Sunshine, the former IBX senior vice president and chief marketing officer who was instrumental in creating the campaign.
“Nurses are the backbone of health care, providing unwavering compassion, expertise, and resilience during life’s most challenging moments,” said Koleen Cavanaugh, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Independence Blue Cross. “Through Celebrate Caring, we honor their dedication and shine a light on the extraordinary impact they make in our communities every single day.”

Over the past six years, IBX has received thousands of Celebrate Caring nominations for selfless nurses in a variety of health care settings. Through the years, IBX has highlighted more than 60 nurses through Celebrate Caring storytelling and celebrations. You can read their stories on the IBX Insights blog.
Media partners 6abc and iHeartRadio will encourage submissions and showcase the winners. Additionally, IBX will work with local health systems, hospitals, physician offices, clinics, and schools, to help boost nominations. Previous Celebrate Caring winners have also helped raise awareness for the campaign.
How to get involved
Go to ibx.com/nurses via desktop or mobile to fill out a short submission form. You’ll be asked to submit:
- The nurse’s name and workplace – IBX is looking for nurses that work in a variety of settings across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
- Your name and relationship to the nurse – grateful patient, supportive coworker, adoring partner, proud family member, or good friend? Let us know!
- A brief description of why the nurse should be selected. We encourage submitters to speak from the heart. We want to know what stands out to you about this person and why they should be selected. We read every submission.
Follow and engage with IBX on social media using #CelebrateCaring. We’ll share stories about nurses throughout the submission period – including spotlights of previous winners and nurses who work at IBX. Finally, tune in to meet our 2025 Celebrate Caring winners during July and August.
