Independence Blue Cross launches BlueBench Program to help address isolation and loneliness among seniors in Philadelphia

Independence Blue Cross (Independence) today launched the BlueBench Program. The program aims to address isolation and loneliness among seniors in Philadelphia by creating an infrastructure, such as park benches, for them to meet new people and socialize more. Independence, with support from United By Blue, will celebrate the new program with the unveiling of three new blue benches during a Community Cleanup in FDR Park on September 24, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Local volunteers, businesses, nonprofits, and community groups are invited to participate in the Community Cleanup, which will be run by United By Blue. The goal is to have Community Cleanup participants work together to help remove up to 5,000 pounds of trash/litter from FDR Park. There will also be educational activities, interactive games, music, and food and beverages at the event. To participate in the Community Cleanup on September 24, visit United By Blue’s Waterway Cleanup page.
