Volunteers planting seeds for the Philadelphia Horticulture Society.
For more than 20 years, the Independence Blue Crew corporate volunteers have donated their time, talent, and enthusiasm to helping Philadelphia region nonprofits.
In April, during this year’s National Volunteer Month, members from the Blue Crew will be helping with a variety of projects, including creating hygiene kits for Broad Street Ministry’s Community Hygiene truck. This personal care program distributes items such as soap, deodorant, toothpaste and more to individuals in underserved neighborhoods. Other Blue Crew volunteers will work with Pennsylvania Horticultural Society to pot seedlings in Germantown. These seedings get distributed to local community gardens and the crops are then distributed to food pantries throughout the area.
In 2022, more than 1,000 Independence associates volunteered nearly 3,400 hours benefitting 48 regional nonprofits. 90 associates engaged in 3,426 hours of independent volunteer time outside of Blue Crew events. The in-kind value of the time volunteered by associates was more than $230,000.
