IBX Blue Crew volunteers kick off year-long celebration of 25th anniversary at The PHS Community Farm at Norristown Farm Park
The Independence Blue Cross (IBX) Blue Crew, one of Greater Philadelphia’s most recognized corporate volunteer programs, kicked off its 25th anniversary celebration with a hands on community project at Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s (PHS) Community Farm at Norristown Farm Park.
On March 26, one hundred IBX associates – PHS’s largest external volunteer group at the farm! – rolled up their sleeves to support sustainable urban agriculture and PHS’s mission to improve access to fresh, healthy food while promoting community well-being.
The volunteers were welcomed by Steve Fera, IBX EVP Public Affairs and President Government Markets who shared:
“This project reflects the heart of the Blue Crew — 25 years of service with strong partners like PHS and the passion of our associates. It’s inspiring to see the collective impact we can make when we come together in support of our communities.”
The project culminated with lunch and special words of gratitude from Jamila Winder, chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, who acknowledged PHS’s work to support health and wellbeing in the region and emphasized the impact of volunteer partners like the IBX Blue Crew.
The Norristown Farm Park project was a celebration of impact, service and community, combining teamwork and fresh air with meaningful action as Blue Crew volunteers planted, mulched, built raised beds, and created pathways in a Memorial Rain Garden. The PHS Community Farm grows produce for local food pantries, community partners, and a Food As Medicine program that “aims to mitigate Social Determinants of Health barriers; specifically for individuals with serious mental illness who are experiencing food insecurity.”
IBX is a longtime supporter of PHS’s year-round efforts to create beautiful, healthy, safe, and sustainable communities.
