Gregory E. Deavens and Lorina Marshall-Blake recognized as Black Power Players

Gregory E. Deavens, president and CEO at Independence Blue Cross (IBX), and Lorina Marshall-Blake, vice president of Community Affairs at IBX and president of the Independence Blue Cross Foundation were named to Metro Philadelphia’s Black Power Players list.   

This list honors influential Black leaders who are shaping the unique Philadelphia landscape through arts, policy, health care, education, and more.  

Under Deavens’ leadership, IBX is advancing equitable, whole-person health, including integrating physical and behavioral health and reducing racial and economic health disparities. 

Marshall-Blake leads the Independence Blue Cross Foundation. She was instrumental in launching the Institute for Health Equity in 2022, which focuses efforts to reduce and prevent health disparities.   

The list was published in the February 22 issue of the paper.
