Independence Blue Cross (Independence) received the American Heart Association (AHA) 2020 Eastern States Region Corporate Leadership Award for demonstrating exemplary support of AHA’s mission. AHA executive director Jennifer Davis presented the award to event chair Dr. Richard Snyder, Independence’s chief medical officer, at the at the virtual Philadelphia Heart Walk on November 6. The Walk raises millions of dollars for the AHA while rallying Americans to live healthier lives.
Independence has prioritized employee engagement and wellness by encouraging hundreds of their employees to participate in the Heart Walk since 2014. This year, associates raised nearly $250,000, including corporate and individual donations.
Additionally, as a one-day fund-raising incentive on November 6, Independence announced it would distribute 10 personal protection masks to local healthcare workers for every $25 donation.
In his remarks at the virtual event, Dr. Snyder highlighted CPR Ready, a regional campaign he helped launch in 2016 to increase the number of people in the region who are qualified and willing to perform bystander Hands-Only CPR, as well as use an automated external defibrillator (AED). To date, CPR Ready has trained more than 100,000 people on how to save a life.
