Independence President and CEO Greg Deavens poses with associates who attended the game.
On a date that slyly referenced its anniversary year, Independence Blue Cross (Independence) took over Citizens Bank Park with a celebration of the company’s 85th anniversary at the Philadelphia Phillies game on August 5. The game featured a huge associate fan base, a special first pitch, and a range of promotions inside the stadium and on game broadcasts.
Before the game, President and CEO Greg Deavens went on the field to throw one of the ceremonial first pitches. The Philly Phanatic served as catcher for the pitch. Deavens was decked out in a custom Phillies jersey with the number 85 and “IBX” on the back.
In the stands, more than 650 associates and their family members watched the Phillies beat the Royals 9-6 in an exciting game that included home runs by Phillies Alec Bohm, Bryce Harper, and Trea Turner. Deavens visited associates during the game.
Independence’s anniversary was recognized throughout the game with special graphics on the scoreboard and around the stadium. Deavens’ first pitch was featured during the game’s television broadcast. Deavens was also interviewed by broadcaster Gregg Murphy for the Phillies’ pre-game radio program.
