During the 2023 holiday season, Independence Blue Cross (IBX) celebrated 30 years of sponsoring the Independence Blue Cross RiverRink at Penns Landing. Since 1993, IBX has played a pivotal role in transforming the Philadelphia waterfront, creating a joyful space for families and friends to gather year-round to have fun, celebrate and enjoy being together.
This year, FOX 29’s Bob Kelly visited the IBX RiverRink in December to get first-hand experience of all that Winterfest has to offer as part of his “Kelly Drives” series. In addition to highlighting the games, food, and drinks available at the venue, he was able to catch up with IBX Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Koleen Cavanaugh. “Time goes by fast when you’re doing something fun! Through our sponsorship, it’s been 30 wonderful years of really bringing fun, healthy activities and a sense of community to the riverfront,” said Cavanaugh.
Kelly and Cavanaugh also touched on some impactful initiatives being sponsored this year through IBX, including the Good Skates program and a food drive in collaboration with Philabundance.
Through the Good Skates program, now in its 28th year, more than 500 students from 15 Philadelphia schools get an opportunity to receive free skating lessons each year. The food drive supported Philabundance’s efforts to help feed Philadelphia-area families through collections at the IBX RiverRink and at IBX headquarters.
IBX has also worked to make it easy – and affordable – for more people to enjoy the IBX RiverRink. On November 24, IBX sponsored free skating and rentals for anyone who wanted to skate. And as the company does every year, IBX members and associates can receive free admission all season long.
IBX is also sponsoring special IBX Days featuring family-friendly activities, surprise member perks, and a chance to win prizes. The final two IBX Day is February 10.
The IBX RiverRink Winterfest is open seven days a week through February 20, 2024.
