Independence Blue Cross (IBX) and the American Cancer Society (ACS) were named 2026 Partners in Philanthropy by the Philadelphia Business Journal, recognizing their longstanding collaboration and shared commitment to advancing cancer prevention, research, and support throughout Greater Philadelphia.
“The Independence Blue Cross and American Cancer Society are united by a shared objective: creating healthier futures by advancing access to quality care and accelerating progress in the fight against cancer. It’s an honor to bolster ACS’s efforts to champion prevention, screening, and support for families across Greater Philadelphia. And we are particularly proud of IBX’s role as a major sponsor of the Coaches vs. Cancer BasketBall Gala since its launch in 2003,” said Steve Fera, executive vice president of Public Affairs and president of Government Markets at Independence.
Key Areas of Impact

- Supporting more than 14,000 stays at the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge, which provides a free home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers while they receive treatment at a local Philadelphia cancer center.
- Amplifying the need for cancer screening through public awareness campaigns and community engagement.
- Driving innovative cancer research taking place in Greater Philadelphia.
- Encouraging healthy lifestyles and cancer prevention through physical fitness and wellness programs
