
Independence Blue Cross (Independence) President and CEO Gregory E. Deavens and Executive Vice President of Public Affairs and Government Markets Stephen P. Fera were included in City & State PA’s Philly Power 100 list. The list includes public officials as well as business leaders, academics, and advocates.
The Philly Power 100 list appeared in the October 31, 2022, issue of the magazine.
Deavens was recognized for his commitment to fostering innovative approaches to health care delivery as well as health equity and whole-person health. This includes a focus on reducing racial and economic health disparities and integrating physical and mental health.
Recently, Independence helped launch Accelerate Health Equity to achieve measurable, positive changes in health outcomes in Philadelphia. Independence has also collaborated with Cocolife.black and Cayaba Care to address maternal health equity challenges. In addition, Deavens announced a new partnership with Penn Medicine to advance value-based care in the region through the sale of a minority stake in Tandigm.
Fera’s distinguished 30-year career at Independence, includes his leadership of multiple lines of business and his championing health equity and public-private collaborations. He oversees Independence’s nationally recognized Medicare Advantage plans and the company’s Public Affairs division. This includes government and community affairs and Independence’s $140 million charitable foundation.
City & State PA included Deavens and Fera in its Philly Power 100 list in 2021. Earlier this year, Deavens was on City & State PA’s PA Power 100 list and 2022 Health Care Power 100 list.
