Philadelphia – October 16, 2020 – Independence Blue Cross (Independence) today announced the launch of an annual Clinical Care Innovation Grant Program (Grant Program) intended to foster new, innovative approaches to care delivery that will ultimately help improve the health and well-being of its members. Health systems and large specialty groups that are in the Independence network and currently enrolled in a value-based care program are encouraged to apply for a 2021 Clinical Care Innovation Grant, which will be awarded through this Grant Program.
“We are excited to offer providers in our network the opportunity to compete for additional funding that they can use to develop new approaches to how they and their colleagues deliver care,” says Dr. Rodrigo Cerdá, Independence Vice President of Clinical Care Transformation. “Our goal is to have these grants lead to novel ideas that can ultimately be shared across the Independence network as a best practice and applied beyond a pilot population to a broader patient base.”
Health systems and large specialty groups applying for a Clinical Care Innovation Grant should submit ideas that focus on the following:
- Being new and innovative
- Improving quality and access to health care
- Enhancing the patient experience
- Lowering health care costs
- Bringing patient care closer to home where possible
Five Clinical Care Innovation Grants will be awarded in 2021 with an average of $200,000 per grant. Grant Program submissions are due by December 31, 2020. Each entity is permitted up to three submissions. The submissions will be evaluated internally by an Independence review committee; providers whose submissions are accepted will then be invited to present their idea(s) in January 2021. Winners will be notified by the end of January 2021.
