Consumer alert: suspicious phone calls from a company offering pain relief cream

Independence Blue Cross has been alerted to phone calls members are receiving from a suspicious telemarketing company involving a pain relief medication. The telemarketing calls are from a company offering pain cream they say is covered by the member’s Blue Cross® Blue Shield® plan.

We have not contracted or partnered with the company making these calls, and we will not share your medical or prescription information with anyone not authorized to receive details about your care. If members receive a call they are advised to hang up and report the call to Independence’s anti-fraud department.

Report Fraud

If you suspect health care fraud against Independence Blue Cross or any health insurance company, we urge you to report it. All reports are confidential. You are not required to provide your name, address, or other identifying information.

Report fraud using any of the following three methods:

  1. Online. Submit the Online Fraud and Abuse Tip Referral Form
  2. Phone. Call the confidential anti-fraud and corporate compliance hotline toll-free at 1-866-282-2707 (TTY/TDD 1-888-789-0429), 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.
  3. Mail. Write a description of your complaint, enclose copies of any supporting documentation, and mail it to:
